Doha Bay Running Club (DBRC) was formed in October 2009 when a few like-minded runners happened to meet each other while training on Doha’s famous Corniche. They agreed to get together every Friday morning for their long run, becoming a familiar site around the city and gradually picking up more runners as word spread.

Friday runs are still held, meeting at Qatar Sports Club car park, in front of 1882 coffee shop. Today’s runs regularly attract 30-plus runners of all abilities and paces. They are followed by a new runners’, for those getting into the sport and wishing to gradually increase their distance and pace under the guidance of more experienced runners.

The Friday long runs typically range from 10km to 35km depending on the time of the year. Runs are mapped out, although participants are free to take their own route depending on their own training needs, with regular stops at petrol stations selling water.

All participants of both groups are then encouraged to get together for a social gathering at Caffe Vergnano 1882 at Qatar Sports Club. This offers the ideal opportunity for a post-run debrief and the chance to chat about ongoing training and races. You never know what race in which country you may be persuaded into tackling.
